Charging While Coding Side Effects?

Question: If you are a Mac user, I currently use a Mac for programming. Is it normal for me to work on it while it is on the charger? Does this have side effects on the computer and battery life?

This isn’t because it is charging, but rather because coding can take large amounts of processing power.
