Will re-claiming old usernames ever return?

I know that while ago you were able to contact staff and ask to claim an old, inactive username. I also know that this was stopped a while ago, but I was wondering if you would ever have the opportunity to do this again?

It was only staff and never mods. But I don’t think this will happen again because people were selling accounts if they got a good username

What about trusted community members? Ones that have a history of activity and have not done anything of the sort?

@functionally did this to claim @sky so the process is basically you ask for it, and if the original account holder doesn’t reply within a week they’ll give it to you so it’s basically a re-race for the most og names XD
