Trouble installing gulp as a task runner

I’m testing out Replit for our company and like it so far but have not been able to install Gulp as part of my build process for compiling sass and running purgecss on simple html pages. Can any task runners be used on Replit? If so, what needs to be done to get it working? I’ve checked the docs and see nothing about how to get Gulp or any other task runner to work.

I don’t use js, but it seems you need to be on a node repl
