Replit has gotten very laggy on potato computers

Now I know this laptop is a really bad potato, but it can still run a basic 2D game. Yet somehow when trying to use the replit editor replit makes chrome use up like 50-60% CPU and forces me to wait like 5 seconds for the editor to update before I can continue typing.
Even task manager says cpu and memory are both almost unused until I try to type something.
It would be nice to be able to turn off all this editor bloat replit is adding to make it less laggy because I’m not sure what to do.

Could also just be Chrome, since Chrome is famous for being a CPU hog.

No other sites lag as much as replit does

So what does that prove, that just proves my claim that Chrome is a massive CPU hog.

replit used to be fine before (chrome can handle literally anything but replit, chrome isn’t the issue)

I just checked and sometimes it still freezes and doesn’t max cpu out.
It still has plenty of resources to use and freezes anyway
The profiler says replit is spending 25 seconds in the keydown and keyup handlers

It might just be that replit just has a lot going on within the system, so it takes more CPU or smth.

Maybe that has something to do with why were getting egress and paid deployments…

Ok so it seems to coincide with a request to https://logs.browser-intake-datadoghq.com/ which happens when I type a lot at once. I blocked that domain and it seems a little better but it still freezes for a little while so it must be doing a bunch of useless junk that takes too long. (replit tries to send 6 KB every time you try to change like 3 characters at once)

I would say to report this in the Bug Reports board of Replit Ask.

I would like to agree with OP here and argue with several others. I use a pretty nice laptop to run Replit and so can keep way too many tabs open at once with no problems. However, if I try to run Replit on my older laptop (under Firefox, not Chrome), Replit lags so bad with just one tab open that it’s not even worth using. This computer has decent specs but is older and lower-end. Other sites and programs do not lag like Replit does.

Honestly i run replit even on my ipad and the only time i had issues was on an intercontinental fight because Lufthansa internet s@$$ !

Maybe it runs better on iPads. Isn’t the Replit app available for iPads? This may be the difference. Computers must use the website.

i tend to use the browser on ipad as the app is really annoying to use.
