In the docs, on API reference “extension.json” it says The extension.json file contains the manifest for an Extension and needs to be placed in a public directory. You could just call it root directory. Just an idea

the public directory is sometimes not the root directory, in your file structure. some frameworks make you place public files in a folder like static or public
