Let explorers be a little cool, let them have a title!
@boringcodes what would it look like? Also what are explorers
. Is it people that have a certain amount of topic/post viewed?
The problem with Explorers as titles is that anyone can turn on Explorer and get the title, so it isnât so âexclusiveâ, like titles normally are.
Also most of the titles on Ask are Ask/Discourse specific (though there are a few for Replit). But yeah, you can turn on explorer any time and making that synchronize with Ask when Ask is not hosted by Replit would likely be tricky.
If you are talking about mainsite this wouldnât be too hard I think but I donât think they will to prevent everybody from getting a badge.
If you are talking about here on ask we will not be doing this because titles and flairs are reserved for people who have done something more significant.
It would be easy actually. With the help of Replit staff confining the SSO all explores can be added to a group that gives flairs/titles
Following that thought, what if explorers are just added to a group that doesnât have a flair and title?
Thats possible but what would the point be? Also this would require Replit staff because the SSO payload would need to modified and I cant do that
Maybe an explorers category or something, Iâm not sure. Perhaps could be a good way for discussion of explorer beta features/announcement of such features.
Good point. Having a cat for them be made would be a separate request
Titles are kind of meant to be more rare, while anyone can become an Explorer. Maybe a badge for being an Explorer for one year or something, but still then whatâs the point? If they make too many badges then there will be 20+ badges on some random personâs profile.
I would not like to see badges, titles, or flairs related to the mainsite other than the ones that are currently on the forum. Mainsite accomplishments, badges, etc. (such as Explorer, Pythonista) should stay on the mainsite.
Badges on Ask are symbolic of what youâve done on Ask, not what you have done on the mainsite. However, another alternative would be to give Explorers a âbadgeâ similar to how Pythonista, paid plans, etc. are displayed on a userâs profile on the mainsite.
