IPv6 badge on Ask?

It seems like Ask doesn’t have any interesting new badges right now, so how about an IPv6 badge? (A badge could be awarded to users who log in using IPv6).
As for implementing it, I already created a working implementation that’s being used in production on another forum (using webhooks and Discourse’s API), so it’d be easy to set up (I’d be more than willing to share my implementation’s source code)

So… logging in by IP address?
What if there’s an IP address that is used by more than one person?

If that’s an IPv6 address, they all get the badge.

btw doesn’t Ask already track IPv4 addresses?

Ask supports both IPv4 and IPv6, so they store both.

Then why would someone log in with their IPv6 address?
What’s the point of it?
And IPv4 addresses are way more supported than IPv6 addresses.
ANd how could you log in with an IPv6 address if there’s more than 1 person using it?

People don’t choose, their web browser / OS does

The same way you can now. The badge wouldn’t change how Discourse works, it merely adds functionality to Discourse.

Would be/is automatic. If your device/os/browser/ISP supports it, then you most likely use IPv6.

What I mean is what if someone logs in with an IPv6 address that is used more than 1 person?
Who would get logged in?

They both would. Discourse tracks log-in(s) by cookies, not IP, so they wouldn’t conflict.

IPv6 isn’t really handled by userspace programs. They all get logged in, just like with IPv4.

Oh you’re saying everyone that has an IPv6 address gets a badge??

Basically. It’s not much more than that

Well…
That has nothing to do with Ask…
Maybe you could make a topic where everyone suggests some badges.

Nor do half the default Discourse ones I’d argue.

Just because they’re default Discource badges doesn’t mean they’re Ask badges.
And btw I mean it has nothing to do with interacting with Ask

Sorry, what? I don’t understand what you mean.

Oh, I get it now. The default Discource badges have something to do with interacting with forums, but having an IPv6 address has nothing to do with any forums.

I like the idea of this unique trench related badges.
