Add read-only invite feature to Repls

Describe your feature request
I would like the ability to invite people to a Repl with read-only permissions. I know it’s possible via the API but you’re not supposed to use the API so it would be nice to have an official feature to do this.

What problem(s) would this feature solve?
This would allow people using private Repls to share their code with certain people without giving those people edit access to the code. I have been invited read-only to a few Repls and it is indeed very handy.

Explain what you were trying to do when you came across the problem leading to this feature request
I saw that LuisAFK’s “XL Replit” extension on Github has this feature but also a disclaimer that using it may get you banned and it reminded me of this cool and practical feature which is hidden from the Replit UI.

you may be banned if you use any of the API so it is true but I feel like this one is a lighter (?) IMO. Furthermore, the read only is not like you can access the files through the editor UI but can’t edit them because I think they stopped working on it a while ago (evidenced by the fact that it doesn’t have any way to use it other than API) it can only be accessed from cover page. I would add to the req to access from editor but make it uneditable

Definitely not env var access :confused:
I wish we could control access to that in regular multiplayer
